Elbert Green Hubbard was born on June 19, 1856, in Bloomington, Illinois. He was an American writer, philosopher, publisher and artist. He is best known as the founder of the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, New York, which represents an influential exponent of the Arts and Crafts Movement. He died on May 7, 1915, on RMS Lusitania, which was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland.

This book is part of his collection of biographical pieces that were published monthly starting in 1894. These pieces were gathered and republished in a 14-volume Memorial Edition in 1916.
